Delhi University Sports Council

University of Delhi sports establishment accomplishes the objectives and its educational role in promoting sports activities mainly through a Statutory Body of the University knows as Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC). The Director of Physical Education in Professor Scale is the Executive Head of the DUSC. The Chairman plays the supervisory role in the functioning of the DUSC. The main purpose of the establishment is to initiate, execute, coordinate, supervise and control the Physical Education and Sports activities and other such programme that promote general and specific interest in Sports awareness in the University and its constituent Colleges. It also strives to improve the standard of competitive sports in the University and its constituent Colleges. The activities of the DUSC are conducted throughout the academic year.

The following sports facilities are available in Delhi University Sports Council(DUSC):

Rugby Stadium: The Rugby Stadium was the Competition Venue for Rugby Seven’s during the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi and the Training Venue for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017.

The University Rugby Stadium has a playfield of Rugby with a lush green arena for Football, Baseball, Handball, Kabaddi and Softball. The Rugby Stadium has the Office of the Director, Physical Education, Delhi University Sports Council.

Multipurpose Hall: The Multipurpose Hall was the Training Venue for Netball and Boxing during the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi. The University Multipurpose Hall has imported carpet flooring on the Lower/Ground Floor and wooden flooring on the First Floor for Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Judo, Netball, Table Tennis & Taekwondo. The services of gymnasium (Gym) available in the Multipurpose Hall are utilized for the Post Graduate students, M.Phil./Ph.D scholars and teaching and non teaching employees of the University. Polo Ground: The Pologround was the Training Venue for Athletics during the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi. The Pologround has 8 lane Synthetic Track for Track and Field events. It also has playfield for Football, Baseball, Handball, Hockey, Kabaddi and Softball.

  • Facilities in the Rugby Stadium, Multipurpose Hall and Polo Ground of the University are used for conducting Inter College Tournament/Championship, Selection Trials and Coaching Camps and also used for the conduct of the North Zone/All India Inter University Tournament/Championship allotted by the AIU from time to time. The facilities are also extended to all the constituent Colleges/Institutes of the University for preparation/training of Sports team/s of their College/Institute.
  • Delhi University Sports Council deals with the admissions on the basis of Sports Quota in the University in a centralized manner. The Sports Trials of the candidates seeking admission in the Undergraduate/Postgraduate Programmes under Sports Quota are also held in the above mentioned venues during the centralized admission process.
  • Rugby Stadium, Multipurpose Hall and Polo Ground are also available to other agencies for booking on charges for the conduct of events / sports competitions / Championships etc. from time to time as per rules.
  • DUSC conducts the Inter College Tournament/Championship in which teams participates from the constituent colleges/departments. The Game/Sports are as under:

  • DUSC holds the selection trials in Game/Sport to select the University team to participate in the North Zone/All India Inter University Competitions from time to time.
  • Hockey Men Team of the University visited The University of Edinburgh, Scotland for Training cum Competition in August 2014.
  • Football Women Team of the University 6visited Lincoln University, New Zealand for Training cum Competition in March 2013.
  • Dr. Anil Kumar Kalkal, Director, Physical Education of the University accompanied the contingent of Indian Universities as Head of Delegation for the 29th World University Games 2017, Taipei (Chinese Taipei) in 2017.
